UPDATE: Color + Care Liquid Lip Balm is now available at Ulta for $5.99.
Almay Color + Care Liquid Lip Balm
I tend to prefer products that do one thing over multipurpose products. For example, I’ve always had better results using dedicated skin care products under foundation than with a 9-in-1 BB Cream. But the last few multipurpose products I’ve tested have actually delivered on all their claims, so I decided to try Almay’s new Color + Care Liquid Lip Balm (a lip balm and gloss in one). These are officially launching in July, but I picked two up at my local Harmon last week, where it looked like there were about ten shades available. I’ll update this post with more accurate information after these Liquid Lip Balms are launched.
Almay doesn’t have all the product information up on their site yet, but here’s what the product display says:
Penetrating conditioners. 2x times hydration.
Drench. Quench. Condition. Shine.
I’m not a huge lip gloss fan. I think soft shine or sheen looks great, but super shiny lips aren’t my thing. Color + Care Liquid Lip Balm definitely looks like gloss on the lips, but it’s more of a soft sheen than a high shine finish. Because it’s not wildly shiny, the texture isn’t tacky or sticky. The formula reminds me of Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector’s (read the review here). It’s thick and almost gel-like and it feels more like balm than gloss on the lips. These have a slanted sponge tipped applicator.
Color + Care Liquid Lip Balm has average longevity as a lip gloss (I need to reapply every two hours or so), but it continues to moisturize long after the gloss has worn off. I like this because it’s a really low maintenance product. Unlike so many of the multipurpose products I’ve tried, this one actually saves me time by replacing two products without sacrificing the quality of either.
I purchased #200 Nudetrients (a sheer petal pink with very subtle shimmer) and #800 Rosy Lipped (a rosy brown pink. It’s a great my lips but better shade).
This is one of the few multipurpose products I’ve used that I feel works as well as using the products it claims to replace individually. If you like lip glosses with thicker textures and soft shine, try Almay Color + Care Liquid Lip Balm. If you prefer a high shine finish, you might be disappointed.
Almay Color + Care Liquid Lip Balm launches in July, but you might be able to find it at local drugstores now (try Harmon if you have one near you!). Let me know if and where you’ve spotted these, and I’ll update this post! These are now also available on ulta.com.
