L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Gloss is a new, limited edition collection of six matte shades. L’Oreal is calling this a gloss, but it’s more like a thin, opaque liquid lipstick. Its texture is similar to that of NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream, but this is a little less matte. It looks a bit glossy on application but ‘sets’ to a matte finish (set isn’t the right word since this formula never really sets–more on that in a bit!). It’s packaged just like L’Oreal’s original Infallible Gloss and has a flattened sponge-tipped applicator.
I expected this to wear more like a liquid lipstick than a gloss, but I was surprised to find that, like many glosses, this formula doesn’t fully set, even hours after application. You can expect quite a bit of transfer. Still, Pro-Matte wears impressively; all six shades leave a serious stain even after most of the lipstick has worn off of lips. This is definitely long-wearing, but I wouldn’t recommend wearing it on occasions when you don’t want your lipstick to move–this will end up on cups and possibly all over your face.
The nice thing about this formula is that it’s pretty moisturizing and does a nice job camouflaging dry areas. It requires less prep than many other matte finish products.
Pro-Matte Gloss is limited edition, but I think this will be a popular release since its formula is nice and user-friendly and all six shades are great. Plus, everyone loves a good matte. So I can definitely see Pro-Matte becoming permanent.
