Summer Favorites

summer favorites 2015
So sorry I haven’t posted in a while…I’ve been busy with grad school applications! Anyway, here are a few things I’ve been loving since I last posted:

  1. Revlon ColorStay Makeup for Combination/Oily Skin

wearing Revlon ColorStay Makeup for Combination/Oily Skin–sorry for the poor photo quality!

I use this if my skin is particularly oily, or I’m going to be in sweltering heat, or if my skin isn’t in great condition. This past summer, my skin looked pretty terrible. I had really bad acne that is just now starting to clear up, so I wore this foundation pretty regularly. I can always rely on this for a little extra coverage and confidence. It’s also great in the summer because it’s affordable enough to buy an extra shade or two if you get a tan. It can apply a little heavy, so be sure to really blend it in.

  2. Givenchy Photo’Perfexion Fluid Foundation

I think I’ve found another holy grail foundation! This may be better than Lingerie De Peau! I wear the shade 4 Perfect Ivory (this shade range runs super light), and it’s one of the best matches I’ve ever used because it isn’t too pink! This has a super user-friendly formula and my favorite kind of finish: one that looks flawless while still looking like real skin. It’s matte enough for me to wear through the summer, but doesn’t look flat or one-dimensional at all. This doesn’t photograph as well as some other formulas, but it looks better in person, making this my current everyday foundation.

  3. Nars Fez & Bad Behavior

NARS The NARSissist Eyeshadow Palette Pro Prime

    NARS The NARSissist Eyeshadow Palette

I know I’ve talked about The NARSissist palette a lot, but now I’m going to talk about two specific shades: Fez (the bronzey shade in top row of the middle column) and Bad Behavior (the mid-tone pewter blue in the bottom row of the same column). I’ve been using these two shades all the time for the past few months. I blend Fez over the lid and add a little bit to the outer third of the lower lash line, and then I add Bad Behavior in a thick line at the upper lash line (I usually use a MAC 239 for this) and blend it out with a 217. I add a little Bad Behavior to the lower lash line…and that’s it! This look is so easy and really flatters blue and brown eyes.

  4. BECCA Blotting Powder Perfector

BECCA Blotting Powder Perfector in Translucent

This is the only powder I’ve used that really doesn’t seem to add any texture or white cast to makeup. Usually I need to finish my makeup with a setting spray to get rid of the powdery finish that setting powder leaves behind, but I can skip that step with this product! It comes with a little zippered pouch and a power puff, so it’s great to keep in your purse. The only downside is that because this comes in a pressed format, you get less product (or at least it feels that way!).

  5. Gel Manicures

I’ve always done my nails myself, but a couple of months ago I started getting gel manicures (usually Shellac) every two weeks at a salon. I’ve done gel manicures at home, but having them done professionally is so much better! Not only does the gel last a full two weeks without chipping, it also helps my nails feel thick and strong enough to keep them as long as I want.

After hearing nothing but absolute rave reviews for BECCA’s Shimmering Skin Perfectors for years, I recently bought the shade Rose Gold…and I’m pretty disappointed! Maybe this is because I bought the pressed version instead of the liquid, but mine has visible flecks of shimmer that are almost large enough to be considered glitter! Not exactly a subtle highlight!
